Funebre Macabre
The Lovecraft Sextet & The Answer Lies in the Black Void, Panorama Series, Mixes from Trujillo, Paranoid London, RIP Sabah Fakhri, Archie Shepp, Abdullah Ibrahim.
Hello frens, long time no see.
Let’s start with some jazz today;
⭐ A testament to his long career, Abdullah Ibrahim will be releasing a new album by the end of this month called “Solotude”. Solotude is a recording of Ibrahim’s birthday concert on 9 October 2020 at Hirzinger Hall, in the east of Germany.Please watch this emotive video by the master pianist.
♩A Guide to the Music of Archie Shepp, Who Kept Jazz Vitally Political: Read and listen to this extensive look on Archie Shepp’s music career on Bandcamp.
⭐ Two new albums to satisfy our urge for Jazz Noir - until we have a new album by Bohren und der Club of Gore. Jason Köhnen of The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble & Mount Fuji Doomjazz Corp. fame, has released two new projects;
The first one on Denovali, is by the aptly titled, Lovecraft Sextet. A wonderful treat combining dark jazz, Gregorian chants and classical music.
🤘 FUNEBRE MACABRE🤘
The second album is by The Answer Lies in the Black Void, which is a collaboration with Martina Horvath from Thy Catafalque. It’s Candlemass meets King Diamond doom with a healthy dose of experimentation. Like the wild free jazz cacophonic sax solo on the single Become Undone.

LIVES LIVED
Terrible news! We’ve lost Sabah Fakhri, whom I’ve just mentioned on the last newsletter.
Syrian artist Sabah Fakhri, who is renowned for extremely long live performances - this doesn’t even come close to his reported 14 hours!!!
Another sad passing, Andrew Barker of pioneering UK duo 808 State has died.
CLOSING THOUGHTS
I guess this is the first time, I really got what Björk’s about! Never been a fan, until now!
