Hello folks, bon vacance!

IN HEAVY ROTATION

Colin Stetson & Brighde Chaimbeul

Holy moly there are 2 albums out now, one is Brighde’s album with more than 5 features by bass sax giant Colin Stetson. The other is Colin Stetson’s new album When we were that wept for the sea.

Colin Stetson’s album has less euro folk and is generally revolving around his usual style, with this one very cinematic piece that differs, and Ms. Chaimbeul and also another collaborator Iarla Ó Lionáird adds the Celtic touch.

Brighde’s album on the other hand is totally Celtic with Mr. Stetson creating a drony ambiance, as far as I can understand. Both are amazing and both should be checked immediately, starting from the video below!

ODDISEE

Freshest hip-hop I've listened to in the last couple of months: The new album by ODDISEE.

.Jazzy, soulful, good flow & lyrics.. The chorus of the track below is an earworm, beware! :) Live version on Youtube.

Nabihah Iqbal

Meet me under the sunflower / Find me there in the golden hour X

Totally unexpected lo-fi house masterpiece on the new album from UK's Nabihah Iqbal.

Sunny War

Bluesy Americana is a genre I rarely delve in, but this amazing fingerpicking riff has been stuck in my head since a few weeks. Kudos!

UDW

More songs on the playlist this time as I’ve missed May completely! (I see you Primavera Sound!).

Last year’s Arovane & Taylor Deupree collab starts the show, glitchy and ambient and continues with ambient synths via a recommendation by Ay Palas.

New Bright & Findlay album changes direction to a more upbeat tone. We have a new Baxter Dury album and for me it’s the first time we’ve clicked.. More indie-ish stuff from UMO and LA Priest.

Next up, Japanese world fusion band TEKE::TEKE and an Undomondo regular Sven Wunder with a new cinematic piece.

Gabriels who totally stole the show in Primavera follows with cinematic gospel tinged R&B. Oddisee’s new album is 2023’s best jazzy & old school hip-hop album. We venture into soulful folk / accoustic guitar territory (hopefully without losing your attention) w/ Oracle Sisters, Sally Potter and a special artist personally Lisa/Liza from Maine, whom we’ve been in contact since the earliest days of Undomondo.

Midway, solo piano piece by a the singular Emahoy Tsegué-Maryam Guèbrou (the Ethiopean classical pianist & nun) whom we’ve lost in March.

Spanish indie pop nuggets from Jorge Drexler and Natalia Lafourcade whom I nicked from wifey, a little bit of dance with this Chico Mann remix of the debut album of tropical/world nu disco newcomer Tigerbalm, an old hit kids song from Chantal Goya (nicked from my daughter), Ghanaian gospel singer Linda Ayupuka and Oy and resetting with a Dungeon Synth piece by Ithildin (whom just released 4 albums on plants in LoTR lore).

The star of the playlist for me though is this forgotten private press from 1981 by Luellen Reese, compiled by Forager Records.

The last sequence features some ambience and home listening electronics/IDM/ techno. Martyna Basta, two new albums on PAN, by Upsammy and Tzusing, Avalon Emerson’s new home listening electronic band album, and slowing down with home recording cult artist R. Stevie Moore’s long drone and a piano piece by Shida Shahabi.

I wrote this in one take! Maybe I can actually do a live talking radio show one day.. :)

Enjoy and share!

A new and final Beatles recording using artificial intelligence will be released later this year, Sir Paul McCartney has announced.

The musician said he had used new technology to “extricate” John Lennon’s voice from an old demo and complete a decades-old song.

Brad Troemel on Instagram: “The Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC) was an American committee formed in 1985 with the stated goal of increasing parental control over the access of children to music deemed to have violent, drug-related, or sexual themes via labeling albums with Parental Advisory stickers. The committee was founded by four women known as the “Washington Wives”—a reference to their husbands’ connections with government in the Washington, D.C. area. The women who founded the PMRC are Tipper Gore, wife of Senator and later Vice President Al Gore; Susan Baker, wife of Treasury Secretary James Baker; Pam Howar, wife of Washington realtor Raymond Howar; and Sally Nevius, wife of former Washington City Council Chairman John Nevius. One of the actions taken by the PMRC was compiling a list of fifteen songs in popular music, at the time, that they found the most objectionable. This list is known as the “Filthy Fifteen”.”
