Hello boys and girls, here’s the annually late best of list I make every year. Although the John Doran article on record collectiong and end of year lists was a real eye opener, I was already halfway through making this so I kept on going. And anyway, who changes their minds by things they read on the Internet.
Jokes aside, the list tends to the noisy end of rock/punk/aggro/psychedelic music re: Protomartyr, Pontiak, Algiers, IDLES, Hey Colossus, Sleaford Mods, Thee Oh Sees etc. yet there’s also a lighter poppy/hip-hopish/soulful stuff from Nick Hakim, SZA, Princess Nokia, Sampha et al..
Cutting edge electronic / house / techno re: Tornado Wallace, Awanto 3, Bicep, TIN MAN accompany balearic / ambient goodness from Gaussian Curve, @Johnny Nash & Suzanne Kraft, The Caretaker and Chihei Hatakeyama is also covered.
The only thing I’ve completely omitted is the dark side, black/death/doom metal which I’ll publish on a seperate post.
Finally I have to say the most impressive band has been King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard for not only making 1 but 5 incredible albums, which is an impressive feat to say the least.
